DCNet survives Hurricane Isabel – 83 mph at Silver Spring!

The DCNet array of turbulence instrumentation in downtown DC demonstrated its ruggedness by surviving the onslaught of Hurricane Isabel. The peak wind gusts recorded at the National Academy of Sciences (on the Mall) and at Silver Spring (SSMC-III) were 72 mph and 83 mph respectively. Fifteen-minute wind speeds reached about 30 mph at both locations.
