NOAA Assistant Administrator for Research Visits ARL

Steve Thur, NOAA’s Assistant Administrator for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, visits ARL on Monday, March 27, for meetings and a series of briefings on lab capabilities, research and facilities. An all hands meeting will invite all ARL staff to contribute questions and thoughts.

Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair

Temple Lee and Ed Dumas served as judges for the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair held on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on March 28, 2023. They not only judged high school projects in earth and planetary science, but also judged special awards presented by AMS, NASA, NOAA’s “Taking the Pulse of the Planet,” and Women in Geoscience.

Publications

A paper led by Temple Lee, with Ronnie Leeper, Tim Wilson, Howard Diamond, Tilden Meyers, and David Turner as coauthors entitled “Using the U.S. Climate Reference Network to Identify Biases in Near- and Sub-Surface Meteorological Fields in the High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) Weather Prediction Model” has been accepted for publication in the journal Weather and Forecasting.
