Site Selected for Multi-Media Measurements at Canaan Valley

April 1, 2002

The next phase of studies in collaboration with the Canaan Valley Institute in West Virginia is about to start. The focus of the program is on the role of air pollution as a factor affecting the total environment. Atmospheric studies are already being made, near a branch of the Blackwater River . A sampling station on the shore of the river will soon be set up, in collaboration with USGS, to monitor pollution levels in river water simultaneously with similar measurements in air and deposition. The eventual goal is to understand the cycling of pollutants of atmospheric origin within the local watershed.
