850 mb Wind Field
At 18 UTC on August 27 (first figure below) a trough was moving east from
the Great Lakes region. The winds at 850 mb over southern New England
were weak (generally less than 10 kts) west-southwesterly.
By 18 UTC on August 28 (second figure below), the trough had deepened
considerably and the winds at 850 mb over southern New England were
generally westerly at 10 to 25 knts.
