Event Analysis from NARE-93
Surface Synoptic Pattern
A deeping low pressure system (1008 mb) was moving out of southern Ontario and into
southwestern Quebec at 18 UTC on August 27 (first figure below).
A bermuda high was situated off
the North Carolina Coast. The flow between these two system was still
weak southwesterly over southern New England at this time.
By 18 UTC on August 28, the low had deepened considerably (less than 1000 mb) and the
gradient between it and the high to the south was much stronger. An associated
trough was about to move off the eastern seaboard, however ahead of it the
winds were still southwesterly.
