Event Analysis from NARE-93
Modeled Ozone Concentrations
Near the end of the North Atlantic Regional Experiment, in August of 1993, high ozone
values were measured by aircraft in the Gulf of Maine as well as at many nearby
land-based sites. The Hysplit/IER simulation, representing a one hour average
concentration, for 18 UTC, on the 28th of August is shown below.
The model simulation was initialized two days prior to the event using hourly
emissions from about 800 locations (0.5 deg resolution) over the Eastern U.S.
The model indicates a maximum area of ozone concentration (80 to 120 ppb)
extending from Washington, D.C. to Nova Scotia.
