NOTICE - Important HYSPLIT Changes made!

READY/HYSPLIT users:

In December 2003, we moved our newest web server online to host the ARL and READY/HYSPLIT websites. This new server should speed up processing of graphics and HYSPLIT calculations. Coinciding with the switch to a new server, several enhancements to READY programs and HYSPLIT access were introduced, impacting most READY/HYSPLIT users. The following changes took place....

READY Change - The most significant change was the reconfiguration of the Archived Meteorology section of READY. To be consistent with the Forecast Meteorology section, the Archived Meteorology section now has the familiar global and North America map, and all of the READY model products that are currently available under the forecast section are now available under the archived meteorology section. Other changes involved mostly fixing broken links and updating webpage formats.

HYSPLIT Changes - A significant change took place in the methodology we use to access HYSPLIT online.

First, we opened HYSPLIT access to EVERYONE, without a password, when running HYSPLIT with archived data (forecast data still is password protected). To access this open site click on the new menu item on the main HYSPLIT page titled, "Run HYSPLIT with archive data." Keep in mind that you must still accept and abide by the HYSPLIT Use Agreement when running HYSPLIT with archived data.

Secondly, we now have only one username and password for access to HYSPLIT when using forecast data and continue to require new users to fill out a registration form for access. After registration approval, we email the single account name and password to the user instead of faxing the information.

Users who are previously registered for HYSPLIT access and no longer need access to HYSPLIT with forecast data, need do nothing and the account will be removed (you can register at a later time if you need access to forecast data). Current HYSPLIT users who want to continue accessing HYSPLIT with forecast data need to login to the HYSPLIT website as you currently do (with your personal username and password) and you will be instructed on how to get the new single username and password. Your current username and password will no longer be used except to access the new account information.

We plan to change the single username and/or password (HYSPLIT with forecast data) every 1-3 months, which will be emailed to all registered users. If the return email address is no longer valid, and we have not been notified of a new email address, we will remove the account, eliminating “dead” accounts.

In addition, we implementing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) on our password-protected pages of READY. When accessing these pages you are instructed to accept the website certificate before continuing. Once accepted, you will be accessing HYSPLIT using https instead of http and your information, including username and password, will be encrypted before transmission to protect them from interception.

We hope these changes will benefit most READY/HYSPLIT users. Thank you for your continued support.
