Cooperative Institute for Atmospheric Sciences and
Terrestrial Applications (CIASTA)
-
The Cooperative Institute for Atmospheric Sciences
and Terrestrial Applications (CIASTA) is a major collaborative
effort between the University and Community College
System of Nevada, represented by the Desert
Research Institute, and the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA),
represented by the Office
of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research ( Air
Resources Laboratory), the National
Weather Service, and the National
Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service.
The CIASTA has a number of objectives, including:
Foster long-term collaborative research on themes of
mutual interest; Facilitate the establishment of joint
research projects between scientists of NOAA and universities
in the Intermountain West (between the Rocky Mountains
and the Sierra Nevada/Cascade Mountains); and Improve
the effectiveness of graduate-level education and expand
the scientific experiences available to graduate students
in the Intermountain West to include their participation
in joint research programs.

Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere
(CIRA)
-
CIRA
is a cooperative institute between NOAA and the Colorado
State University. The Institute conducts research in
applied cloud physics, local weather forecasting, global
climate dynamics, satellite observations, numerical
modeling, and air quality. The National Environmental
Satellite and Data and Information Service (NESDIS)
has co-located programs and personnel with CIRA. Seventy
university researchers, postdocs, graduate students
and staff are supported in CIRA.

Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental
Sciences (CIRES)

CIRES
is a cooperative institute between NOAA and the University
of Colorado. The Institute conducts research in environmental
chemistry and biology, atmospheric and climate dynamics,
cryospheric and polar processes, the solar-terrestrial
environment, and also collaborates with the (NESDIS)
National Snow and Ice Data Center and the Center for
the Study of Earth from Space.
