HYSPLIT Model Updates

Highlights of Recent Updates

March 2012 Revision (299)

  • Most changes since V265 were minor addressing a variety of issues ...
  • Added GUI option to batch process ensemble simulations for performance statistics
  • Solved issue with labeling of Google Earth KMZ files for concentration plotting
  • Created FTP log file to document problems that may occur with data transfers
  • Fixed problem associated with adding concentration files together near the prime meridian
  • Closed the particle input file after reading so the same file can be used for output
  • Added a new namelist option to turn on or off radioactive decay of deposited material

November 2011 Revision (265)

  • Added specific humidity and mixing ratio as output options for trajectories
  • New program to map model performance statistics
  • Modified compuation of KSP to exclude zero measured-predicted
  • When using time averaged velocity fields for transport turn off interpolation
  • Added additional data sets to forecast download menu
  • Using updated installer/uninstaller to eliminate false positive virus detections

July 2011 Revision (225)

  • The default in-cloud particle wet removal coefficient was reduced
  • When multiple species are defined on one particle, gravitational settling only occurs on last
  • Spatial interpolation of the precipitation field for wet removal calculations is turned off
  • Wet removal only occurs when both precipitation and clouds are defined in the same grid cell
  • Definitions for the cloud bottom and top have been moved to the namelist file
  • The hourly particle number release rate can now be defined explicitly
  • The local time zone can be shown in the concplot label rather than UTC
  • Corrections to KML files to define contours that span the International Dateline
  • The testing script was updated to include the simulation of CAPTEX release two
  • Utility and plotting programs were updated to permit plotting of data points in DATEM format
  • The WRF-ARL decoder was corrected to handle extra user defined 3D variables

February 2011 Revision (157)

  • Changed version naming convention to use SVN (version control) revision number
  • Added the SVN revision number to MESSAGE file and trajectory/concentration plotting pgms
  • Permit definition of a vertical line source in EMITIMES file
  • Randomized particle position during emission for vertical line sources and area sources
  • Generalized input of /bdyfiles files to automatically determine EOL character sequence
  • AFWA decoder can now handle Lambert, Mercator, or Polar projections
  • Raised the limit meteorological /directory/file names from 80 characters to 256 each
  • Also added a new namelist field (MESSG) to define the base name of the MESSAGE file
  • New namelist option to create a Log-normal particle size distribution in multiple sub-bins
  • Added grib1 decoding for UK meteorological office files
  • New residence time option to trajectory frequency program
  • New default color table options for concplot and the option for a user defined color table
  • Modified horizontal puff dispersion rate to be more consistent with particle dispersion
  • Longer-range horizontal square-root puff growth rate replaced by empirical function
  • Change to use Kantha-Clayson as default turbulence when TKE field is missing
  • Ensemble cleanup script added to GUI
